The dark haired one is the boy, Kirya. The children are a set of quintuplets and he was born in the middle, right between two sets of sisters. I don't think ufotable will bother much with the trivial details on this family, although they will probably explain why he is currently going around cross-dressing.

The hand demon was likely as weak as the grounds required the demons to be when captured; according to what he explained, he managed to build his strength up once he was inside the grounds, mainly fueled by his anger towards Urokodaki-sensei, and devouring any fool weak enough to cross his path and not even escape if they didn't have what it takes to defeat him.
We're initially made to think that if Tanjiro, Sabito and Makomo had enough talent and grit to not only train well and develop skills suitable for any standard demon slayer, but one also becomes the main hero of this demon-hunting story, all the people tested are the same. However, going by the guy Tanjiro saved from the hand demon, it's obviously not the case. Most of them are weak, cowardly, too emotional or foolish to get their act together and manage to even survive the Selection.
That's why there's even a Selection. To make sure the Corps don't waste their resources on any random person who wants in, but doesn't perform their duty properly. It's a harsh policy, but it's as fair as it gets too. It's not a regular job, though they get a salary(based on the rankings listed and performance) and some "benefits", it's enlisting in a para-military army waging an active war with supernatural entities.

In the exam, surely there would be something in place to stop Demons from getting too strong. The Morphing Demon was able to get exponentially stronger because he consumed those young men and women before they even became a Demon Slayer.

Wisteria are beautiful flowers and are always bright. They keep showing them too, makes me wonder if there has been any other use for them besides just being a barrier to keep demons in this arena. Can they be used as weapons somehow?

Urokodaki is a great teacher. He was never easy on Tanjiro, infact he planned to never let Tanjiro enter the exam by giving him an "impossible" task. But giving Tanjiro a hug and showing emotion like that, he really does love Tanjiro. As well as his other studens who died.

Tanjiro finally has his own Demon Slayer sword. The Swordmaker was so nerdy haha, he wasnt going to stop talking about the sword. I suppose you would need to be to make swords. Tradtionally they take a very long time to make and require a lot of effort.

The colour of the Blade is interesting too. It will change depending on who wields it. The Swordmaker seemed pretty upset it didnt turn red, but black. I wonder if there is any meaning behind the colour the swords take or if its just an effect of the blade.

Thats some big foreshadowing from what the sword maker said.

They don't have the time to enter and scour the grounds for clever demons with a grudge, like him. They likely didn't even know someone like him (still) existed in there, cause the examinees who found him either didn't survive him, or were too traumatised to talk about him. And he is a fair comparison to the relatively low level demon "elites" that would and could crop up at random outside the grounds and whom even a starting ds could run into. It's not a good sign to go complaining about the demons' strength inside the testing grounds when you could probably run into Muzan or his strongest minions on your first assignment as a ds, and you'd still have to fight them.
And maybe Sabito would've been a good slayer, maybe he wouldn't, he still failed against that demon, something he might've done even on his first mission as a slayer. As it turns out later in the story, his sacrifice had even bigger of a ripple effect for the Corps' benefit than we see from his direct influence on Tanjiro and he did become a great trainer in spirit.

Well yeah it is said in the beginning that they are once humans the demons, so they could have a very sad past. That's how the demons reproduce, by transforming some humans while eating others.
